BACKGROUND

The changes that consciously occur at the level of the Board and Committees in credit unions necessitates a certain level of reorientation to the roles, functions and expectations of officers. It is with this in mind that Your League wishes to conduct a training programme that will serve to orient/reorient officers to their various roles and functions with the society.

OBJECTIVES

The programme objectives are:

Help participants to better understand the various roles involved in the ‘management’ of their credit union.
Orient/reorient participants to the interconnectivity amongst the various roles.
Help participants to create equilibrium between the perception of authority and responsibility.
Help officers to understand the roles of the credit and supervisory committees.
Help participants to understand the separation of roles (Credit/Supervisory versus management)
Help participants to understand the Fit and Proper Criteria.

EXPECTED OUTCOME
At the end of the programme participants will:
Understand their roles
Be better able to contribute in their various positions to the overall growth and development of the credit union
Understand the difference in roles (management versus board)
Understand the Fit and Proper Requirement.

All credit union personnel, persons desirous of serving on board and committees of credit unions and those who are currently serving.

More than ever citizens of Trinidad and Tobago are in need of continuous guidance in order to prevent crime in some form or fashion and to make every effort to ensure that we adhere to prudent safety measures in order to enjoy our movement from one place to another and to feel comfortable in doing so.

I refer to Circular #08/07 to you dated 6th February 2007 and wish to advise that I have just conducted a pre visit to the Rex Resort, St Lucia. I am pleased to inform you that the Resort is ideal for hosting our 7th Annual Leadership Conference. We have attached therefore, details of the early and regular packages and a profile for your information.

The conference is scheduled to take place at the Rex Resort, Reduit Beach, Castries, St Lucia, for the period Thursday 24th May – Sunday 27th May 2007. The theme for this year’s convention is “The Human Capital Factor….Challenges to the new Governance Structure”. This convention will foster good relationships and build mutual understanding among credit unions and fellow co-operators within the region and beyond; it will also facilitate a relaxed atmosphere for others.

Youth Programme


The youth programme of the leadership conference was successfully launched for the past three (3) years. Participants included representatives from the Connecticut League, the First Step Youth Credit Union and other credit unions. This year, we encourage all credit unions to include at least one youth representative as part of their team attending the conference. The youth credit unionists will participate in simultaneous workshops and be afforded the opportunity to present their views to the adult participants.
The theme for the Youth Forum is “The Challenges of Youth in a new Governance System

The 2007 All Inclusive participants’ package has the following features:

    The Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions’ 50th Annual International Convention and 36th Annual General Meeting is scheduled to convene on a Cruise Ship from Miami Port to Grand Cayman, Belize, Isla Ratan and Costa Maya for the period July 8th – July 15th 2007. “Credit Unions Recognizing our Success…..Navigating the Future” is the theme for the 2007 convention.
